Georg Schreyögg was the son of the innkeeper and baker Mathäus Schreyögg. His mother was Kreszentia Marie Schreyögg, born Jörg (1833-1899). He grew up in Mittenwald and from 1884 he was educated at the wood carving school in Partenkirchen. After that he studied in Munich at the Kunstgewerbeschule and at the Akademie der Bildenden Künste, where Wilhelm von Rümann was his teacher from 1894 to 1901. From 1901 to 1908 he worlked as a sculptor in Munich. He married Elisabeth von Barton (1881-1957) in 1905.

After receiving a scholarship from prince regent Luitpold he lived in Italy for a year. In 1909 he became a professor at the Kunstgewerbeschule in Karlsruhe. From 1920 to 1932 he was Professor of Sculpture at the Badischen Landeskunstschule Karlsruhe. After his retirement in 1932 he moved back to Mittenwald. He died there in 1934.
