Daughter of Carl Christoph von Lengefeld from Rudolstadt and sister of Charlotte von Lengefeld, the wife of Schiller. She married the older Friedrich von Beulwitz when she was 16 years old, but a divorce followed in 1794. In August 1796 she married her cousin Wilhelm von Wolzogen, a friend of Schiller who was steward at the court in Weimar. Her first novel "Agnes von Lilien" was published anonynomously in 1798 and many thought it was written by Goethe. It was illegaly reprinted several times and in 1802 it was translated into French. After Schiller, her husband, her sister and her only son had all died she left Weimar in 1825 and moved to Jena. There she lived until the end of her live in a house that was offered her by grand duchess Maria Pavlovna. In Jena she wrote works like "Schillers Leben" (1830) and the autobiographical "Cordelia" (1840).
