Richard Luksch studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich, where he attended the Hackel drawing school and the Stöcker painting school. He exhibited at the Vienna Secession and in the Glass Palace in Munich. In 1900 he married the painter Elena Luksch-Makowsky. They had three sons. He belonged to the group around Gustav Klimt and left the Vienna Secession when Klimt did so. From 1907 he was a professor at the Hamburg School of Arts and Crafts. In 1921 he divorced Elena and in 1923 he married his second wife, the expressionist dancer Ursula Falke (1896-1981). They had a daughter, Jorinde (1921-1971). After he participated in the nazi-critical festival "Krawall im All" he was dismissed from state service. He died in 1936 in Hamburg. He was buried on the gravesite of his father in law Gustav Falke at the Ohlsdorf Cemetery in Hamburg.
