Josef Lindurm lost his father when he was four years old. He was educated in Aschaffenburg and Speyer before he studied philosophy, physics and medicin in Würzburg. He also studied in Heidelberg and he was promoted in 1850. He went to Dublin, Edinburgh, Vienna and Paris for research. Back in Germany he settled in Munich as a physician. In 1853 he obtained an engagement as a teacher at the university of Munich, where he lectured about syphilis. From 1859 to 1874 he was the director of the department for dermatology of the general hospital in Munich. He became the first professor of dermatology in Germany. He was married to Josephine, a daughter of the politician Johann Baptist von Zenetti. They had two daughters. His wife died in 1869 and didn't live to see him enobled by the king in 1872. Lindwurm died of pneumonia in 1874, aged only 49. In 1878 the Lindwurmstrasse in Munich was named after him. |
