Agnes Kraus was the daughter of a banker. She was educated at the Preußischen Staatstheater Berlin by Leopold Jessner. She performed in several tragedies like Schiller's "Maria Stuart" but later it became clear that her real talent was comedy. From 1936 onwards she worked at the Berliner Volksbühne under Eugen Klöpfer. In the same year she made a movie appearance in "Eskapade" (1936). During the war she was engaged the Kammerspiele in Munich. After that she was involved in puppetry for several years, running her own puppet theatre together with her older sister. During the 1950s and 1960s she played in several DEFA movies. Her appearance in the television series "Dolles Familienalbum" made her very popular with the public. From 1972 until her death in 1995 she lived with her sister in the Mellenseestraße in Berlin. She loved animals and she left 500.000 Mark to the Tierpark Berlin. |
