Beatrice Dovsky was the author of short stories and fairy tales like "Der Wiener Fratz" (1903/1904), "Lady Godiva" (1910) and "Die Gnä Frau". She also appeared on the stage as a soubrette at the Raimundtheater in Vienna. On 7 November 1905 her play "Der Alte Herr" was staged at the Bürgertheater in Vienna. She is best known for writing the libretto for the opera "Mona Lisa" by Max von Schillings. It was written in 1913 after the Mona Lisa painting by Leonardo da Vinci was found in Florence after it was stolen from the Louvre in 1911. The opera was staged in September 1915 a the State Opera in Stuttgart.
