Herta Mayen took ballet lessons from an early age. Later she took singing lessons as well. When she was fifteen ears old she appeared at the Femina stage and later she was engaged at the Ronacher Theatre and at the Stadttheater. In 1938 she want to Berlin where she appeared at the Kabarett der Komiker. In 1939 she went to the State theatre in Munich. After that she returned to Berlin. From 1939 to 1945 she worked as a dancer at the Admiralspalast and at the Metropoltheater. From 1939 she had several smaller movie parts as well.

After her marriage she went to Buenos Aires, where she appeared at the German stage from 1952 to 1955. Bad health forced her to return to Vienna and from 1958 she appeared at the Löwinger-Bühne. She died in 2015 in Vienna. Her married name was Hausner.
