Heinz Conrads was the illegitimate son of the seamstress Marie Hansal (1890-1985). His name was changed in Conrads later after his mother married. He learned to be a carpenter, but also tried his hand at acting. In 1933 volunteered for the army and in during the attack on Poland in 1939 he fell ill and was sent to Vienna. By that time he was married to Lilly Peter but this marriage ended in a divorce. He took acting lessons during the Second World War and in 1942 he debuted at the Stadttheater in Vienna. After the war he was noticed by Heinz Sandauer and he worked as a cabaret artist and a chansonnier. From 1946 until his death he hosted a radio show for ORF and he also presented television programs for ORF. In 1953 he married Erika Cecek. From 1953 he worked at the Theater in der Jozefstadt and also in films. In the 1970s he started playing in the opera "Die Fledermaus" at the Volksoper. He died in 1986 in Vienna. |
