Lydia Alice Foote was born as the daughter of the coachbuilder Arthur Wellington Legg. Her maternal aunt Mary Anne Keeley (1805-1899) was a well known actress. She debuted at the Lyceum theatre in London in 1852 and performed in many theatres in London. In 1866 she played Clara in "The Frozen Deep" by Wilkie Collins. Other successful parts were Esther Eccles in "Castle" (1867) and Anna in "The Danischeffs" (1877). In 1872 she played Mary Thornberry in Dion Boucicault's version of "John Bull" at the Gaiety Theatre in London. Events |
| 22/2/1873 | Premiere of "Man and Wife" by Wilkie Collins at the Prince of Wales Theatre in London. Squire Bancroft had staged the play and played Speedwell and Lydia Foote was Anne.
