Claire Motte was educated at the ballet school of the Opera of Paris from the age of ten. Her teachers were Carlotta Zambelli and Yves Brieux. When she was fourteen years old she joined the corps de ballet. She was named première danseuse (principal dancer) when she was eighteen years old and in 1960 she became danseuse étoile. Jean-Pierre Bonnefous was often her dancing parner. She was the first Esmeralda in Roland Petit's "Notre Dame de Paris". Her career at the Opera lasted until 1979.

She joined the conservatory in Bobigny as a teacher in 1969. She also taught at the dance school of the Opera in Paris and at the Opera itself. She also taught at the Conservatoire national supérieur de musique et de danse de Paris. In 1988 she received the Légion d'honneur. In 1986 she died in Paris.
