Antoine Berjon was trained to make designs for the factories in Lyon and his work was used by silk designers. He was also known as a painter of flowers.

He studied with the agronomist Francóis Rozier (1734-1793). He travelled to Paris where he learned to work as a portraitist and a miniaturist. After the French Revolution broke out he left Lyon for Paris, but his life in Paris was miserable and he returned to Lyon around 1810. In 1810 he obtained a professorship at the École des Beaux-Arts de Lyon. He also painted portraits of Lyon society. Ater intrigues by his colleague the painter Pierre Révoil he lost his job and was replaced by Augustin Alexandre Thierriat. After that he lived in a boarding house where he painted and drew on his own for another twenty years.
