Klara Ziegler was the daughter of the sik dyer Wilhelm Ziegler and his wife Babette. Her father died when she was young. She became an actress against the wishes of her guardian, the actor Adolf Christen. He advised against it, but he gave in parents, gave her lessons and she debuted in Ulm. In 1862 she played in "Jungfrau von Orleans" in Bamberg and later she worked at the Gärtnertheatre in Munich and the Court Theatre in Leipzig. From 1868 to 1874 she was a member of the Court Theatre in Munich. After she left it she only took guest roles.

In 1876 she married Adolf Christen, who was 33 years her senior. When he died in 1883 she didn't enter the stage for two years. She returned until a severe illness ended her career. She died in 1909 in Munich. After her death her house near the Englischen Garten in Munich and her fortune were used to open a Theatre Museum in 1910. The Ziegler-villa was destroyed during the bombings of 1944, but in 1953 the museum was reopend in the Hofgarten and in 1979 it became a State Museum.
