Daughter of the actor and director Rudolf Retty, who educated her. She debuted in 1898 at the Deutsches Theater in Berlin. From 1895 to 1903 she worked at the Deutschen Volkstheater in Vienna en from 1903 onwards she was permanently engaged at the Burgtheater in Vienna, until she became a honorary member there in 1958. She also appeared in films. Her debut was in "Geld auf der Strasse" ("Money on the Street", 1930) and other roles were in "Hotel Sacher" (1939), "Wenn die Götter lieben" (1939) and "Wien 1910" (1942). Herlast appearance was in "Der Kongreß tanzt" ("Congress Dances", 1956). Actor Wolf Albach-Retty is her son (by the austrian officer Karl Albach) and actress Romy Schneider is his daughter and her granddaughter. She was still charming in old age and died in 1980 aged 105, surviving her son by 13 years. Family Son: Albach-Retty, Wolf |
