Hans Wislicenus was a son of the history painter Hermann Wislicenus (1825-1899). The author Georg Wislicenus (1858-1927) and the painter Max Wislicenus (1861-1957) were his brothers. He studied at the Academy of Art in Düsseldorf from 1882 to 1889 and continued his studies with Eugène Carrière and others in Paris. In 1891 he exhibited in Berlin. In 1896 he married his cousin Lilli Finzelberg with whom he had spent part of his childhood (she lived for several years with the family). Their son Hans Hermann (1898-1983) became a painter under the name of Jean Visly. In his later years Hans Wislicenus mainly worked as a portrait painter of Berlin society. His wife Lilli died the next day. They were buried in the grave of her parents at the Städtischer Friedhof Wilmersdorf in Berlin. Family Wife: Finzelberg, Lilli |
