Henry Pettitt was the author of several very successful plays. Together with G. R. Sims he created "In the Ranks" (1883) that ran for 457 performances at the Adelphi Theatre. They also wrote "The Harbour Lights" (1885), staged 513 times at the same theatre. His play "Burmah" that he had written with Augustus Harris was performed on Broadway in 1896, three years after his death of typhoid fever in 1893.
