Anna Nowak married silk manufacturer and alcoholic Johann Heuduck when she was fourteen years old. They had a daughter, Carola Heuduck (1877-1946). On 8 May 1875, in the park of Schönbrunn Palace, she met an officer who stated at her. It was emperor Franz Joseph. They first kissed on 26 June 1875 and repeated this often, with Anna's maid on the lookout. In 1878 their relationship was consummated and she divorced Heuduck, who didn't know about the affair. With the emperor's permission she married railroad official Franz Nahowski. Her affair with emperor continued and her husband didn't object. Franz Joseph usually visited her at her house in the Maxingstrasse, appearing at four in the morning. He came in, made love and then quickly disappeared. She had three children during the affair. Anna was born in 1883 and resembled Franz Nahowski. Her daughter Helena was born on 28 Jul 1885 and she was fathered by the emperor, who gave her a large sum of money at the occasion. Helena would marry the composer Alban Berg in 1911. Her son Franz Joseph was born in 1889. He thought he was the emperor's son, but according to his mother's diary she had met the emperor for the last time about a year before his birth. Franz Joseph had ended the affair in 1888, a few years after he had met the actress Katherine Schratt. In 1889, after his son Rudolf killed himself, the emperor broke off all contact with Anna. She was invited to the Hofburg where she met Baron von Mayr and a payment for 'fourteen years in the service of the emperor' was arranged. She had to promise in writing that she would remain silent about the affair and so she did. She died in 1931 in Vienna.
