Rolf Kutschera took acting lessons with Rudolf Beer in Vienna. He was also educated as a pianist and as a composer for cabaret. In 1937 he was engaged at the Theater an der Wien. In 1938 he moved to Heidelberg and engagements in Linz (1939) and at the Volkstheater in Vienna (1940) followed. After the war he wrote and performed cabaret conferences and he worked at the Scala in Vienna. He also appreared in movies that he produced himself. From 1950 he mostly worked in Berlin as an actor and as a director. From 1965 he was the artistical director of the Theater an der Wien. He was married to the actress Susanne von Almassy.
