Susanne von Almassy came from a noble Hungarian family. Her gather was an army officer. She took acting lessons in Vienna and made her stage debut in 1937. In 1938 she was engaged in Gera and Chemnitz and Hamburg followed.

In 1946 she returned to Vienna where she worked for the Volkstheater, the Theater an der Wien, the Burgtheater and the theater an der Josefstadt. She also appeared in movies, like "Der Herr Kanzleirat" (1948) with Hans Moser.

In 1970 she received the Kainz medaillon and in 1999 she was awarded the austrian Cross of Honor. She was married to the actor Rolf Kutschera (1916-2012).
