Mosonyi Mihály was born as Michael Brand, but he changed his name in honur of the district of Moson where he was born. He was interested in creating a Hungarian musical style and used traditional elements into his music. He was encouraged by his friend Franz Liszt.

Mosonyi was best known for his "Funeral Music" and his "Feast of Purification". He composed two symphonies and many piano pieces. He also worked as a teacher and contributed to the music journal "Zenészeti lapok".
