Sophie von Baudussin was the daughter of the court banker Michael Kaskel (1775-1845) and his wife Sara Schlesinger (1774-1858). The banker Carl Kaskel was her brother. She was taught the piano by Adolph Henselt (1814-1889) and Johann Peter Pixis (1788-1874). She also studied composition with Ferdinand Hiller (1811-1885). There are no records from public concerts so she probably only performed in private.

In 1840 she married the diplomat Wolf Heinrich Graf von Baudissin and she assisted him with his work. They lived in Dresden where they were visited by Hans Christian Andersen, Clara Schumann und Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy. In 1878 her husband died. She died herself in 1894 and was buried next to him at the Trinitatis cemetery in Dresden.
