Little is known about the life of the landscape painter John Milne Donald. He was born in Nairn around 1819 and he grew up in Glasgow. There he was apprenticed to a house-painter. He copies works at the Louvre in Paris before he worked as as a restorer of paintings in London from 1840. He returned to Glasgow a few years later and concentrated on landscape painting. On 4 March 1849 he married Mary Bredie and they had several children. Donald exhibited at the Royal Academy, the Royal Scottish Academy and the Royal Galsgow Institute of Fine Arts. He died in 1966 in Glasgow. |
