Alphonse von Oriola was the son of the diplomat Joaquim José Lobo da Silveira (1772-1846) from Portugal. His father was enobled in Prussia in 1822 as Joaquim von Oriola. His mother was Sophia Amalie Myrray (1787-1862). He studied at the University in Bonn and entered the foreign service of the Kingdom of Prussia. In 1841 he was appointed legation secretary in Copenhagen. From 1854 to 1859 he was Prussian envoy at the court in Copenhagen, from 1860 to 1862 at the court in Stockholm and from 1862 to 1863 at the court in The Hague. He died in 1863 in Görlitz.
