Florette Davis was the daughter of the portrait photographer Hyman Davis (1824-1875). Her sisters Julia Frankau was a succesful novelist and another sister, Eliza was a fashion writer and gossip columnist. She married the architect Marcus E. Collins in 1889. After she published her only novel "The Luddingtons" in 1906, her sisters suggested that she should content herself with being 'the beauty of the family'.
