Lionello Fiumi was interested in literature from an early age. He moved with his family from Rovereto to Verona in 1908. Around that time he started writing poetry. He was sent to Munich and the Baltic Sea for treatment for a nervous breakdown. This enabled him to learn German and read modern poetry from many countries. Back in Italy he published his first poems in 1914. He directed the "Gazzettino Illustrato" from 1921 to 1925. He moved to Paris, where he promoted Italian culture. Apart from poetry he also wrote prose and a novel. He started the bilingual magazine "Dante" in 1932. In 1930 and 1936 he received the prize of the Accademia d'Italia and France awarded him the Légion d'honneur. In 1940 he left Paris. He died in 1973 in Verona. |
