Gaby Angelini came from a wealthy family. She obtained her pilot's license when she was nineteen years old at the Aero Club Milan and she soon became a celebrity. She was the first Italian woman who completed a trans-European flight.

In 1932 she went on a solo flight to Delhi in an Italian two-seat Breda Ba.15 aircraft. In Libya she flew into a sandstorm, resulting in a crash in the desert in which she died. Her body was found by Bedouins amid the wreckage of her plane and transported back to Italy. 120,000 people came to her funeral in Milan.
