Karl Friedrich Nebenius was the son of the civil servant Johann Wilhelm Nebenius. He studied law in Tübingen and after that he worked for the state of Baden from 1807 to 1849. In 1814 he married Friederike Sophia Sommerschu (1798-1867), the daughter of an apothecarian from Karlsruhe. In 1818 he was the author of the constitution of Baden, the most liberal constitution of Germany at the time. In 1828 he wrote the law on weights and measures. He also reformed the education system. In 1838 he was appointed Minister of the Interior, but he resigned in 1839 after problems with the foreign minister Friedrich Landolin Karl Freiherr von Blttersdorf. After the revolution of 1848/1849 he was dismissed from public service. He concentrated on literary activities after that. He died in Karlsruhe in 1857. |
