Maria Mercader was the daughter of Luis Mercader and María Forcada Baxeras. Her cousin Ramón Mercader worked for the Soviet Union and murdered Leon Trotzky in 1940. María started her film career in Italy in 1939. At the time Mario Monicelly was her secretary. On the set of "Un garibaldino al convento" she met its director Vittorio de Sica in 1942. Between 1940 and 1945 she appeared in a large amount of films and after that she continued her career until 1992. She lived with De Sica and they had two children, Manuel (b.1949) and Christian (b.1951). Ater he divorced his first wife Giuditta Rissone in 1954 they married in Mexico in 1959. Their marriage wasn't recognised in Italy and after they obtained French citizenship they married again in Paris in 1968. Family Husband: De Sica, Vittorio (1968-1974) |
