When she was sixteen years old she married the landowner Giovanni Sidoli, who was aactive in the Carbonari movement in Modena. To escape arrest her husband fled to Switzerland in 1821 and Giudetta followed him after their second daughter was born.

Giovanni was sentenced to death and they had to remain in Switzerland. Two more children were born before he died in 1828. Her father-in-law was loyal to Austria and took away her children. She did not see them for eight years.

Afterwards she was forced to go in exile again and she lived in Lugano and in Marseille. There she was the host of Giuseppe Mazzini. She became his lover as well as his political collaborator. In 1832 their son Joseph Adolphe was born, but he died in 1835. In 1832 she and Mancini founded the newspaper "La Giovine Italia" and she became its manager and accountant.

In fear of arrest, Mazzine moved to Geneva. She followed him there and care for him. After their love affair ended they continued to correspond. She lived in various cities in Italy. In Florence she met Giorgina Craufurd who increased her sympathy for the Italian national cause. In 1849 she was arrested in Modena and taken to Milan. She escaped from prison and by the end of 1852 she had settled in Turin. There she was frequented in her political salon by revolutionary personalities.
