Fred Buscaglione was the son of a porter. He had a passion for music from an early age and he studied at the Verdy Conservatory in Turin. During his teens he performed in night club. During the Second World War he was imprisoned in a American camp in Sardinia. When his musical talents were discovered he joined the allied radio station of Cagliari. After the war he returend to Turin where he started his group the Asternovas. In 1949 he married the entertainer Fatima Robin. With his friend Leo Chiosso he wrote severtal hits that made him famous. In 1955 he started recording his songs and they sold well. By the end of the 1950s he was among Italy's most famous singers. but on 3 Febraury 1960 his Ford Thunderbird collided with a truck in Rome in front of the US embassy. The accident killed him and he was buried in his native Turin. |
