Friedrich Plener was a grandson of the engineer Zacharias Johann Plener, known for his work on the Dömitz fortress. He studied in Göttingen in 1820 and 1821 and worked on the Ems Hase Canal until 1825. He was involved in railway construction in Hanover and he created plans for the harbour of Harburg near Hamburg that were realised between 1845 and 1849. In 1853 he was knighted and in 1856 he was appointed Chief Builder. |
