August Goldfuss studied medicin as well as zoology in Berlin. He was promoted in 1804 in Erlangen. He took part in an expedition to Cape of Good Hope in South Africa and after his return he worked as a private teacher. From 1811 to 1818 he taught zoology at the University of Erlangen. In 1815 he married Eleonora Oelhafen of Schöllenbach (1789-1873). In 1818 he became Professor of Zoology at the new university in Bonn. He stayed in Bonn and was rector of the University from 1839 to 1840. Between 1826 and 1844 he published his "Petrefacta Germaniae". He died in 1848 in Poppelsdorf. |
