Giogio Saviane studied law in Padua. During the Second World War he joined the partisans in Valtellina. After the war he moved to Florence to practice as a lawyer and he lived there for the rest of his life.

His legal career went well, but he also had ambitions as an author and this proved more difficult. His first novel Le due folle (1957) was published in 1957. "Il Papa" (1963) attracted more attention and his novel "Il mare verticale" (1973) was introduced by Carlo Salinari. "Euthanasia of a love" (1977) earned him the Bancarella Award in 1977, but when it was turned into a movie a controversy was the result. His later work was less intense than his early work. He died in 2000 in Florence.
