Granddaughter of Henry Bathurst, the liberal bishop of Norwich. Her father Benjamin Bathurst suddenly disappeared in 1809 in Germany and he was never heard of again. Probably he was murdered. Rosa herself died even younger. She drowned in the Tiber in Rome after her horse took fright. She was only sixteen years old at the time. Rome had admired her beauty an her intelligence and herdeath came as a shock to society. Stendhal wrote about her death in his diaries. She was buried at the Cimitero Acattolico in Rome.
