Berta Morena was born Betha Meyer in Mannheim. She studied with Aglaja von Orgeni and others and started her singing career in 1898 at the Court Opera in Munich as Agathe in "Freischütz". The critics liked her voice as well as her beauty and she made herself a name in Wagner parts. In 1903 she sang Brünnhilde for the first time. In 1907 she was Leonore in Beethoven's "Fidelio".

In 1908 she sang at the Metropolitan Opera in New York where she peformed during four seasons and she sang the part of Leonore under Gustav Mahler's direction. She also appeared in Berlin, Budapest, London and many other cities.

She left the opera in Munich around 1923 after a disagreement with the management and she became a successful singing teacher in 1927. In 1943 she moved to Rottach-Egern after her house in Munich was bombed. There she died in 1952.
