Anton Veder was educated in Rotterdam and Switzerland. After internships in the banking sector and the shipping sector. Supported by the capital of his family he started his own shipping company when he was 23 years old. The company operated in freight shipping between Rotterdam and the Great Lakes between the USA and Canada. He named it Oranjelijn (Oranje Line) and named his ships after members of the Dutch Royal Family.

After the Second World War he also operated ships with passenger accomodation. Until 1959 his company operated independently. From then on it was part of the shipping companies KPM and HAL, but he still remained its director. He was also active in social and cultural life. In 1964 health problems forced him to leave the management of the company and he switched to the supervisory board. He died from a heart ailment in 1967. The company was liquidated by HAL in 1970.
