Sigmurd Schuckert was educated as a mechanician and between 1864 and 1866 he lived in Munich, Stuttgart, Hannover and Hamburg. He worked for a short time for Siemens in Berlin and then for Albert Krage in Nuremburg. In 1869 he left for the USA where he worked in New York, Baltimore and at the Edison's telegraph factory. In 1873 he returned to Europe to visit the World Exhibition in Vienna. In 1873 he started a dynamo factory in Nürnberg. Schuckert & Co grew into a large company that employed 8,000 people. In 1892 he was forced to retire from nervous exhaustion. He died in 1893 in Wiesbaden. In 1903 his company was taken over by Siemens & Halske. |
