Leo Pasetti was the son of the Russian court photographer Anacleto Pasetti. His started his career as the set designer for the cabaret "Die Elf Scharfrichter". After that he worked for the Münchener Kammerspiele and in 1920 he was appointed production director of the Bavarian State Theatre at the Gärtnerplatzt. He held this position until his early death in 1937.

Pasetti was married twice. His first wife was the painter Ingebord Hartmann, who was a daughter of the painter Karl Hartmann ((1861-1927). His second wife was the Dutch opera singer and violinist Elisabeth Ohms. Their son was the actor Peter Pasetti.
