Ninth child of John Fairbrother, a servant and a later a labourer. She first appeared on the stage in a ballet in 1827. She danced at several theatres and during the 1830s she also became an actress. She performed with Taglioni during the first production of "La Sylphide" at Covent Garden. Often she played male parts. In 1836 she had an illegitimate son, probably by Charles John Manners Sutton. In 1839 a daughter by Thomas Bernard followed. In 1840 she met Prince George of Cambridge and she had two more illegitimate children by him. She was pregnant of their third child child when they married without permission of Queen Victoria. Their marriage wasn't without problems, since the Duke had other mistresses, among them Mrs. Louisa Beauclerk for many decades. From 1867 onwards she was an invalid. She died in 1890.
