Oldest son of the famous criminologist Paul Johann Anselm Feuererbach. He was educated in Bamberg and Erlangen, where he studied history and theology. He suffered from depressions but it seems that a stay in Dresden with the artists around Elisa von der Recke cured him. In 1820 he was able to continue his studies in Heidelberg. In 1825 he became a teacher at a gymnasium in Speyer. His son by his first wife Amalie Keerl, the famous painter Anselm Feuerbach, was born in 1829. In 1830 Amalie died and in 1834 he married Henriette Heydenreich. In 1836 he obtained a professorship in Freiburg im Breisgau. He worked for the university until his death in 1851.
