David Susskind was graduated from Harvard University in 1942. By that time he had married his first wife, Phillys Briskin. During the war he saw action as a communications officer in Japan. after the war he became a press agent for Warner Brothers and a talent agent for Century Artists.

He continued his career at Music Corporation of America, where he was the manager of Dinah Shore and Jerry Lee Lewis. In New York he started Talent Associates together with Alfred Levy. His company created television programs and eventually he became a stage play producer and a movie producer as well.

In 1958 he started his talk show "Open End". In 1960 he interviewed Nikita Khrushchev. In 1966 he married Joyce Davidson, with whom he had three daughters and a son. From 1967 until his 1986 he was the presenter of "The David Susskind Show". This show earned him several Emmy awards. Shortly before his death of a heart attack in 1987 in a hotel room he divorced Joyce and he dated the model Carmen Dell'Orefice.
