Grandson of the painter John Everett Millais, the First Baronet. On 7 Sep 1897 he succeed his father Everett and became the Third Baronet. He lived at Leacon Hall, Warehorne in Kent. The author Joseph Conrad stayed there with him and they liked to play chess. In 1905 he joined the Royal Navy as a Midshipman and he became a lieutenant in 1912. In 1913 he went on the reserve list, but after the First world War broke out he volunteered for the Navy once more in 1914. He saw action on board of the cruiser Stephen Furness but in 1916 he was forced to retire because of tuberculosis. In 1919 he was promoted to (retired) Lieutenant-Commander, but he died from his illness in 1920. Related persons is grandchild of Millais, John |
