Horatia Nelson was a granddaughter of Lord Nelson by her mother Horatia (1801-1881). Her father was Rev. Philip Ward (1795-1859), who was the vicar of St. Mildred's Church in Tenternden, Kent. In August 1858 she married William Johnson (1827-1891) and she lived with him in London. They had at least three children. After she died in 1890 she was buried at Brookwood Cemetery near Woking. Her husband died in 1891. Their headstone was cleaned and the inscription renewed in 2005 because of the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Trafalgar.
