James Henry Mapleson was the son of James Wheble Mapleson. He worked as a violinist for the Drury Lane theatre in London for fourty years. He also acted as the musical librarian for that theatre. In 1829 he married Elizabeth Rummens. They had seven children. Their son James Henry Mapleson (1830-1901) was a well known opera impresario.
