Edith Schultze-Westrun was the daughter of the army officer Karl August Siegmund Schulze and his wife Mathilde, born Westrum. She grew up in Ulm, Berlin and Greifswald. She worked in a laboratory in Munich to pay for her acting lessons, before she debuted under Otto Falckenberg at the Kammerspiele in that city. In 1928 she appeared as a chamber maid in "Lulu". In 1935 she was banned from working for several months after she had spoken critically about the nazis and defended her Jewish friends. After that she worked for the Bavarian State Theatre under direction of Otto Falckenberg from 1935 to 1945. From 1940 to 1945 she was married to film producer Toni Schelkopf. She had two children, Regine and Thomas. Thomas was born from an affair with Paul Verhoeven (1901-1975) in 1937. After the Second World War she worked at theatres in Munich and Hannover and she appeared at the Ruhrfestspiele in Recklinghausen and at the Festspiele in Salzburg. From 1948 she appeared in more than 60 films and television productions. She also had roles in numerous radio plays. She died in 1981 in Munich and Heinz Rühmann spoke at her funeral.
