Otto Stoeckel was the son of a hairdresser. He received acting lessons at the Court Theatre in Weimar and privately from Dagobert Neuffer. His acting career took him to Hanau, Darmstadt, Freiburg im Breisgau, Düsseldof, Leipzig, Dresden and to the Deutsches Theater in New York. From 1930 he worked in Berlin as an actor and as a director. From 1921 he also played supporting roles in many movies. In 1944 he was put on the Gottbegnadeten-Liste by the nazis. After the war he mostly worked as a voice actor. His first wife was the actress Eva Speyer. His second wife was the actress Claire Harten (1890-1972) and this marriage lasted until his death in 1958. He was in the middle of rehearsals for the television play "Leihhauslegende" when he suddenly died in Berlin. He was buried at the Friedhof Heerstrase in Berlin and in 1972 Claire was buried there as well. Family Wife: Harten, Claire (-1958) |
