Viktoria von Ballasko was born in Vienna as the daughter of a high ranked officer. She was educated at the Akademie für Darstellende Kunst in Vienna and debuted in Bern in 1929. She had theatre engagements in Chemnitz, Breslau, Wien, Munich, Stuttgart and from 1935 onwards at the Theater am Schiffbauerdamm in Berlin. During the thirties she was discovered for the movies by Luis Trenker, who gave her a main part in "Der Kaiser von Kalifornien" (1936). She appeared in many more movies until the end of the war. After the war she was able to continue her career, but she was less successful. In 1949 she married Curt Behrendt. In 1956 she retired from the movies after her last part in "Die Halbstarken" and disappeared from the public eye. She died in 1976 Berlin and was buried at the small cemetery of the village church at Berlin Lichterfelde-Giesensdorf. |
