Leny Marenbach was born in Essen. When she was 16 years old she debuted in her hometown at the Schauspielhaus, where she played in "Egmont" and in "Kabele und Liebe". She moved on to theatres in Zürich (where she worked for three years), Darmstadt, Vienna (Theater in der Jozefstadt) and Munich (Kammerspielen). She made herself a name in the movies after she appeared next to Heinz Rühmann in "Wenn wir alle Engel wären". Because of this success she and Rühmann made two more movies together. They had an affair from 1936 onwards, but by the time Goebbels ordered Rühmann to divorce his Jewish wife in 1938 their passion had cooled and Rühmann soon married another actress, Hertha Feiler. After the war her popularity faded. She was occasionaly in a movie, but mostly performed at theatres in Berlin, until she retired from public life in 1964. She had a son by camera man Walter Pindler, with whom she was married for a short time. Related persons had a relationship with Rühmann, Heinz |
