Matha Mödl was a soprano and later a mezzosoprano. She stared her vocal education only when she was 28 years old. In 1942 she debuted at Remscheid as Hänsel. In 1945 she moved to the Rheinoper in Düsseldorf, where she performed almost until her death.

In 1951 Wieland Wagner selected her as Kundy in "Parsifal" for the first Festspiele in Bayreuth after the war. In 1952 and 1959 she sang the part of Isolde in Bayreuth.

She worked with Knappertbusch and Furtwängler and also sang in Hamburg, Munich, Rome, Vienna and other cities. She continued her career until she was over 80 years old.
