Gerhardt Bienert was the son of a bookkeeper. He entered the German army as a volunteer in 1916. After the war he studied German philology and philosophy in Berlin, but he broke off his studies to become an actor. He took acting lessons at Max Reinhardt's acting school where Berthold Held was his teacher. He worked for several theatres in Berlin before in 1928 he founded the Gruppe junger Schauspieler together with his brother Reinholdt Bernt and others. From 1922 onwards he also appeared in silent movies. In 1930 he had a small part in "Der Blaue Engel". In the nazi era he hardly appeared in the theatre but he had parts in manyt movies. After the war he was engaged at the Deutschen Theater in Berlin and he worked there until his death. He also made movies in the DDR for DEFA and for television. His third wife was the actress Inge Herbrecht. He died in 1986 in Berlin. Related persons was pupil of Reinhardt, Max |
