Julia Mast was was educated at the Conservatory in Antwerp. She debuted in "Direkoningenavond", a Dutch language version of Shakespeare's "Twelfth Night". In 1912 she married the actor Dom de Gruyter (1882-1933). After the bombing of Antwerp in 1914 she went to the Netherlands with her husband Dom de Gruyter. She frequently appeard on the stage until 1935. After her husband died in 1933 she had her own theatre company "Ensemble Julia de Gruyter" until 1935. After that she gave readings of Flemish literature. In 1939 she received a Belgian knighthood. |
